At the end of a long chase day in extreme Southwest Kansas... the sun sets behind a departing line of severe thunderstorms near Dodge City. The setting sun lit up the rain curtains on the back edge of the thunderstorm contrast creating an incredible rainbow in the orange sunset glow. I quickly set up looking down the rural road we were traveling on... in my second frame I captured a lightning strike going through the outer edge of the rainbow. When the image popped up on my screen the day was instantly made... and a rather trying chase day became a bright spot in the difficult year that was 2012.
